Spotify Introduces New Basic Plan: Music and Podcasts Without Audiobooks
Spotify is offering a new subscription option for US listeners who prioritize music and podcasts and don't care about audiobooks. This "Basic" tier maintains the previous $11 monthly price tag (as opposed to the new $12 for Premium with audiobooks).
This plan mirrors a similar rollout in the UK last month. It comes amidst controversy surrounding Spotify's recent audiobook integration. The National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) expressed concerns, accusing Spotify of manipulating the royalty system and potentially harming artists. Spotify denies these claims.
The Basic plan caters to users who don't utilize audiobooks and allows Spotify to offer a more competitive price point.
To switch to the Basic plan, existing users can navigate to their account settings and select "Change Plan" under "Manage Your Plan." New subscribers can choose Basic during signup.
